TOMBOY – Hanging up the phone to Teresa Palmer after an hour of speaking; her end of the line in Adelaide where she shares a home with husband and director Mark Webber and her sons, and mine in TOMBOY’s satellite office in Los Angeles (where Palmer and her family spend around 60% of their time), I joked with photographer Zanita Whittington who lensed Teresa for this story, that we should title it, “Mother Teresa”

Palmer is one of Australia’s craftswomen who can safely say they have made it in Hollywood. She is also an independent publisher of wellbeing platform and digital community, Your Zen Mama and Your Zen Life, and a friend of luxury house, CHANEL. Though, her role of mother is without a doubt her starring one. All of her excitement (she is 28 weeks pregnant with her first daughter), her anxieties (negotiating with Webber for another baby after this one), and happiness is wrapped up in it. “Motherhood has been the greatest thing in my entire life and the thing that feels most like me,” she said.

Although reputably questionable, Wiki states that Palmer was in fact named after Mother Teresa. True or not – her name suits her – and like her namesake she is beautiful in spirit as well as in front of the camera, as the pictures prove.

[TERESA on splitting time between LA and Adelaide]

TP: We’re 60/40 at this point. 60% in LA and then 40% in Adelaide. Our little boys have school here now in Australia so we’re getting excited to start transitioning into raising the boys in Adelaide.

Here’s a beautiful new portrait of Teresa showing her support for the ongoing postal vote in Australia to legalize same-sex marriage. The image is part of a group of Australian celebrities (including Teresa’s good friend, Phoebe Tonkin) that have come together to support ELLE Australia’s #ELLEIsForLove campaign.

ELLE AUSTRALIA – Starting from the 12th of September, and running all the way to the 7th of November, Australia is conducting one of the most important, and most highly-contested votes in its history: a postal vote to legalise same-sex marriage.

After a frustrating back-and-forth regarding plebiscites and impassioned floor speeches, Australian’s government decided that a postal survey—a non-compulsory, mail-in vote—would decide whether or not a private member’s bill would be introduced on the topic (which would legalise same-sex marriage, if passed, which it is expected to). The ballots have been mailed out, and every registered Aussie is being asked the very same question, one at a time, “Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?”

But despite the simplicity of the question, and the same simplicity in your choice of answers—“Yes,” or “No”—the vote isn’t so straightforward as we’d hoped it would be.

BYRDIE – Teresa Palmer practically radiates happiness, no doubt a testament to her zen approach to life. But as the actress begins running down the list of projects she has coming up—a whopping six films, including Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups—it’s evident there is plenty to be happy about these days. The 29-year-old is on the verge of a major year.

When she arrives for her Byrdie photo shoot, Palmer, with son Bodhi in tow, immediately lights up the room with her natural glow. The Aussie and face of cosmetics brand Artistry is synonymous with summer beauty, with her bronzy skin and tousled blond locks, making her the ultimate muse for our warm-weather hair and makeup story. Here, Palmer takes on four effortless looks perfect for the beach and beyond. Keep reading for our exclusive editorial and interview.

Byrdie: How old were you when you first started experimenting with makeup?
Teresa Palmer: I was probably about 9, and I remember my next-door neighbor—she was a few years older than me—she told me that she knew how to apply makeup. And at that time, you would pick three colors from a palette and do a third of your eye up to the eyebrow with a green color, and the next third along would be a blue color, and the next third along would be a red color. And we would apply our makeup like that from our moms’ color palettes when we were really young.

B: How would you describe your everyday beauty look?
TP: Completely natural—barefaced, momma style, and very laid-back. I have wild, curly, beachy hair, so that just does its own thing, which makes it very easy for me. And then I just never wear makeup, so for me it’s extremely natural. It’s a very different situation if I am going to an event.

B: What about for date night or if you’re going out with girlfriends?
TP: Yeah, I’ll do a little concealer and a pop of lip. I’ve been really enjoying the new Indigo Skies range by Artistry. I wear the really deep purple red color [ArtistrySignature Color Lipstick ($25) in Velvet]. I love a really dark lip. I think because I’m so fair, I love the juxtaposition of a dark color on my face and having light eyes and hair. I also love a dark brow, so I’ll do that. You know, very sort of dewy cheeks I think is really lovely too.
