DEADLINE – British pay-TV broadcaster Sky is taking one of its originals to Comic Con for the first time – launching fantasy epic A Discovery of Witches at the San Diego event. It comes as the company revealed that a U.S. broadcaster is expected to be announced shortly – possibly at the event, which takes place July 18-22.

The cast of the series, including Teresa Palmer, Matthew Goode, Alex Kingston and Owen Teale, will attend the confab alongside author Deborah Harkness, director Juan Carlos Medina and producer Jane Tranter from production company Bad Wolf.

Downton Abbey and The Good Wife star Goode stars as vampire Matthew Clairmont, while Hacksaw Ridge‘s Teresa Palmer plays heroine Diana Bishop in the series, which is produced by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner’s Bad Wolf. It will air on Sky One later this year.

Discovery Of Witches is the first instalment of Harkness’ All Souls Trilogy, which has sold more than 3.5M copies worldwide. Originally published in 2011, Discovery is the story of Diana, a young scholar at Oxford who is a descendant of the Salem witches. When she accidentally unlocks an enchanted manuscript, she is compelled to embrace the magic in her blood and enters a forbidden romance with charming 1,500-year-old vampire Matthew. The second All Souls novel, Shadow Of Night, was published in 2012 followed by The Book Of Life in 2014.

Kate Brooke (Mr Selfridge) penned the adaptation and is showrunner. Tranter, Gardner and Harkness are exec producers.

Back in August, we shared the news that Teresa joined the TV Adaptation of Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy ‘A Discovery Of Witches’. And now we finally have a first look at Teresa as Diana Bishop and co-star Matthew Goode as Matthew Clairmont.

Diana Bishop, historian and witch, accesses Ashmole 782 and knows she must solve its mysteries. She is offered help by the enigmatic Matthew Clairmont, but he’s a vampire and witches should never trust vampires.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY – A Discovery of Witches, based on the best-selling All Souls Trilogy from Deborah Harkness, has found its Matthew and Diana.

British actor Matthew Goode, known best for his roles in period pieces like The Imitation Game and an arc on Downton Abbey, and Australian actress Teresa Palmer (Hacksaw Ridge), will headline the upcoming series from Bad Wolf Television.

Capitalizing on the trend of developing best-selling fantasy novels for television, Bad Wolf Television is producing A Discovery of Witches for the small screen. Bad Wolf is the production company of former Doctor Who producers Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner.

Harkness will also executive produce, and Kate Brooke (Mr. Selfridge, The Forsyte Saga) will head up the writing team and act as showrunner.

Tuesday’s highly-anticipated casting news is six years in the making; A Discovery of Witches debuted in 2011. Producers touted it heavily on social media, including teasing the announcement on Instagram.

British television giant Sky will air the series in the U.K., and a U.S. network will be announced in the coming weeks. The series is slated to begin shooting its first season on location in Great Britain this fall.

A Discovery of Witches follows Diana Bishop, a science historian who also just happens to be a witch with a troubling past that has led her to suppress her magical tendencies. When her research leads her to uncover a mysterious missing manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library, she sets in motion a series of events that will lead her on an adventure across time and continents to discover the secrets of her past and the truth about the origin of magical beings (which includes witches, vampires, and daemons). Along the way, Diana also encounters and falls in love with Matthew Clairmont, a scientist and vampire with a murky past of his own.
