Teresa Palmer on Getting Stripper Lessons to Film ‘Knight of Cups’ with Christian Bale

With eight films out this year alone, actress Teresa Palmer is playing H’wood for all it’s worth. A native of Adelaide, Australia, Palmer, 30, moved to LA after her first big break at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival for her staring role in 2:37, saying, “[The film] got a standing ovation, and then my life changed!” This year, she takes lead in the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation, The Choice; shines alongside an A-list ensemble in the LA-based crime drama Triple 9; and adds to her over-the-top repertoire with a thriller, Lights Out, Mel Gibson’s war drama, Hacksaw Ridge, the psychological drama (her favorite role thus far) Berlin Syndrome, and then some.

In March, she joins another all-star cast (Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett) in Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups. “I had no idea who I was playing,” she says. “I just showed up to set one day and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m supposed to strip?’ Luckily, there were real strippers there, so I had them give me lessons before we started shooting.” Even with a packed slate of films, Palmer doesn’t have any plans of slowing down—except for meditation. “I work with this renowned Buddhist meditation teacher, George Haas,” says the Beachwood Canyon resident and founder of wellness website Your Zen Life (and the soon-to-launch Your Zen Mama). If being a wife, mother (of two-year-old Bodhi Rain), blogger, and actor weren’t enough, “[My husband and I are] about to start getting our bachelors in spiritual psychology,” says the Aussie-turned-bona fide Angeleno. Om-azing.
